Volunteer Recruitment and Role Descriptions

Volunteers are the strength of the church. I am stunned by the creativity, commitment, expertise and enthusiasm that flows from volunteers linked with St Denys.

And yet to be wise stewards of this strength, we need to ensure we take steps to check, guide, support and train volunteers. We have a responsibity for people's safety that is closely connected with how we recruit volunteers, hence the idea of 'Safer Recruitment'.

A lot of what is written in the blog has been shaped by the guidance given by our Diocesan Safeguarding Team and through working out the implications with the St Denys Safeguarding team. And it is vital that whatever you do within your church or organisation, that you comply with the guidance and policies of your national and local church organisation, who in turn will be complying with government directives.

You don't need to start from scratch if you use this examples, but you will need to adapt them to you context. And that is a really good thing, as should lead you to asking questions like 'why are we doing this thing?' and 'who does this person need to be in contact with?' and 'are the expectations we have realistic and relevant?'
