Safe Families: Southampton Summer Update
10,000 Families
This month we are celebrating a significant milestone of volunteers supporting 10,000 families across the UK since we started over 10 years ago.
Every one of those families has a unique story to tell. From single parents juggling school calendars to care leavers navigating the challenges of independence, each family’s journey speaks to the transformative power of support and community.
Here is a story of one family we supported. Jade was referred to Safe Families by her Health Visitor. During our first telephone call with her the fear was apparent and Jade really needed to know that someone cared and would help. Jades ex-partner was due to be released from prison and she was terrified he would come for her and the children. It was arranged for the children to be hosted at weekends so they would be kept away from the home, the girls were aged 3 and 18 months, the youngest had a very rare health condition, for a young mum this was a lot to deal with. The children loved their host family and looked forward to going. The extra time at the weekends allowed Jade to pass her driving test, move house and get her English and Maths qualifications. Eventually, she started university alongside maintaining a job. Jades’ life has been turned around with the regular respite she received allowing her to focus on her goals whilst knowing her children were safe. The relationship between Jade and volunteers has been lovely, Jade felt part of their family and they have remained in touch.
This milestone couldn’t have been achieved without the incredible support of Safe Families supporters. From volunteers opening their homes and lives to build connection and create belonging, to those who fundraise or give regularly, resource friends and those who pray with us. https://safefamilies.uk/donate/
*£10 help one family find hope and connection for a month
* £50 to train and support a volunteer
* £120 to support a new family for a year
We are also excited about the upcoming merger with Home for Good and we have a bold vision to see children and families thrive. Together we have a vision to provide a more holistic solution, through the Church, to prevent children entering the care system through family support and then, if they do, ensuring there are enough safe and nurturing homes through fostering, adoption, and supported lodgings.
As we look to support the next 10,000 families, we know we can’t do this alone. It’s only through the work of our incredible volunteers, supporters, partners and local authorities that we can continue to help families who are isolated and overwhelmed so they do not feel alone and have the support that they need.
Join one of our info sessions to find out how you can support isolated families through volunteering, giving or praying.
Thank you for making a difference in our communities. If you are interested in finding out more about Safe Families Southampton and how you can get involved, we’re having a Coffee Morning at Haskins West End on Wed 25 Sept 2024 from 9.30-11am.
