Why come to the Community Food Project? - Kayleigh's reflection

I asked Kayleigh M to share her thoughts about being part of the Community Food Project (she's one of the Project Coordinators, along with Marion and Gavin), and I loved what she wrote, it's really inspiring. She paints a fantastic picture of the different reasons people come along. Here, have a read...

'At St Denys Community Food Project, we provide a non-judgemental, friendly service with no barriers or questions asked. In difficult or testing times our aim is to bring together people in the local community and beyond, so that people can offer one another support. We understand the need to fill the gaps, whether from our own experiences or from the community experience around us. We offer a safe and friendly environment.

We have a wide variety of people who come along on Friday mornings. We average around 30-60 singles/couples/families per week. We're all from different backgrounds situations and have different life experiences.

  • Some people come every so often, some come weekly. You can come as often or as little you need or want.
  • Some like to keep to them themselves
  • Some like to just come for free drink, snack & chat
  • Some have made great friendships
  • Some come for a sense of routine when all is up in the air.
  • Some come to get away from life's struggles for a morning and just be.
  • Some come for food. They pick their own and we provide what we can.

Being part of the project in whichever way you want means you are helping to combat food waste and leave your own smaller footprint on the environment.

Everyone is welcome and part of bringing the community together. I'm truly grateful and proud to be part of the project and what it is today. Together as a team we will make the community stronger and try to continue to fill the gap where we can.'
