A tasty home-cooked meal served in a welcoming and informal environment, with time to chat and relax together for anyone over the age of 65. We welcome older people who may be lonely, struggling with dementia or other needs. Some of our regular guests bring carers, and they are welcome too. Occasionally, the Lunch Club extends to other activities such as games, newspapers or even exercise routines!
There’s normally between 15 to 25 people who gather to dine together. Tea and coffee is available when you arrive and throughout the meal. The menu varies from week to week but popular classics include Sausage & Mash, Roast Beef and, for dessert, Apple Crumble. The meal is cooked and served by a team of volunteers, and sometimes children from the local school come along to serve. Each Christmas we have a special Christmas meal.
Every Friday from 12 – 1pm
In the Meeting room of St Denys Church Centre.
£5 a meal, paid on the day. It’s ok if you have dietary needs, we can cater for these. We ask that you take responsibility for arranging transport to and from Lunch Club. We are located very near to a bus stop, and there is ample parking onsite for taxis and dropping off or private cars.
Can you help?
St Denys Friday Lunch Club is a great way to meet people, serve the community and make new friends.
We are looking for new volunteers to help prepare food and cook meals in our church kitchen. Experience would be helpful, but not necessary.
You will need to train for a basic online Food Hygiene certificate, and an affinity for older people is essential.
If you would like to help, on a rota to suit your availability, we would love to hear from you.
Please email the office on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 023 8067 1757
St Denys Church Lunch Club is run entirely by the church and volunteers. It is an independent event and not affiliated to any other group or organisation
